Description

A semi-detached pair of villas dating from approximately the 1840s, possibly designed by Derrick of Oxford. The buildings are constructed of stucco with slate roofs, featuring rendered, clustered ridge and end stacks. They are three storeys high plus an attic. Each of the two villas has an L-shaped layout, with a porch set at a 45-degree angle between the arms of the L. Each villa presents a single-window frontage, with canted two-storey bay windows set back from the street. The doorways have four-centred arched heads and wooden doors. The windows on the ground and first floors contain Gothic glazing bars, with some incorporating hood moulds and label stops. Gabled attic dormers have pointed arched windows with Gothic glazing bars and hood moulds. Corner pinnacles are present, as are embattled bay windows. The buildings have basements. The interiors remain uninspected. The villas are documented in Victoria County History: Oxfordshire, Vol. X, p. 36.
