Description
Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was formerly a manor house, built in 1694 (or possibly 1624) as indicated by the datestone, with early 18th-century features. The structure is made of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings and some wooden lintels, topped by an artificial stone-slate roof with stone and brick gable stacks. It has a three-unit plan consisting of two builds and stands two storeys plus an attic.
The irregular front, which now faces the garden, features a chamfered stone doorway in the second bay, with a label below that is inscribed "RB/16(?)4". Above this doorway are two moulded stone stair windows. In the first bay, there are three-light stone-mullioned windows with labels on both the ground and first floors, along with a casement window in the semi-basement. Between the first-floor windows is a three-row dovecote. The right half of the front has a second doorway flanked by three-light casements, and on the first floor, there is a two-light casement; all of these have wooden lintels.
The steep-pitched roof features marlstone gable parapets with projecting moulded kneelers. The left gable wall is partly banded with marlstone and has a two-light stone-mullioned window in the gable. The regular rear side has two bays of stone-mullioned windows, including a cellar window, and two bays of casements along with the current main entrance. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to contain an open fireplace inscribed with the date 1650 and stop-chamfered beams. This building was formerly the manor house of the Raves family, and the datestone commemorates Raves Burrows.
