Description
The Ridge House is a house dating from the early to mid 17th century. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with wooden lintels and has a thatched roof with brick stacks. The house comprises a three-unit plan, built in two phases, with additional outbuilding ranges incorporated. It has two storeys plus an attic, and a single storey plus attic. The right half of the main front range is taller, featuring two three-light casement windows at the first floor, a similar window below, and another which was formerly an entrance. The right bay contains a damaged stone-mullioned cellar window with a moulded label. The left half of the front has two three-light casement windows, and an entrance at ground floor, with a three-light dormer in the first bay. A steeply-pitched roof has a small inset dormer in the third bay, and stacks positioned to the right of bays one and four. A lower range to the right was formerly a three-bay outbuilding, and is now part of the house; a further single-storey range returns to the rear from the left end of the main range. Inside, there are stop-chamfered joists and spine beams, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, a chamber fireplace with a cambered stop-chamfered bressumer, and winder stairs.
