Description

Poyle Court is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and was extended at the rear in the 18th century, with further remodelling around 1830 to 1840. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled concrete tile roof with stone end stacks. It has a three-unit plan that extends to an L-shape with a rear right wing, showcasing a domestic Tudor style.

The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a symmetrical three-window range. Notable features include hood moulds over a mid-19th century panelled door that has blind tracery, along with 2-light above 3-light wood-mullioned windows that have sunk spandrels and Tudor-arched heads with glazing-bar casements. The building is topped with a crenellated parapet and has canted roof dormers with similar windows. The 18th-century rear wing was remodelled in the mid-19th century, featuring a brick rear gable and stack, and there is a 20th-century extension on the left side.

Inside, the room to the right has a stone-flag floor, chamfered beams, and an open fireplace with a stop-chamfered bressumer. There is a mid-19th century dog-leg staircase with winders and a four-bay butt-purlin roof.
