Description
Fleet Farmhouse and the attached outbuilding are a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, built in two stages. The structure is made of coursed squared marlstone with wooden lintels and features a Welsh-slate roof with rebuilt stone stacks. It has a T-plan layout, standing two storeys plus an attic.
The front has four windows, with the two bays on the left being taller. In the second bay, there is an arched 19th-century door below a renewed three-light casement, while the first bay has a blocked first-floor window. The third and fourth bays also have renewed casements on both floors, along with a blocked stair window. The steep-pitched roof has gable parapets and projecting moulded kneelers, with a large stack at the junction of the different levels.
The left gable wall and the rear of the taller section have additional renewed casements but still retain two-light stone-mullioned cellar windows. The right gable features an old leaded casement, and the rear of the lower section has four more three-light windows, three of which have leaded glazing. The rear doorway, which is now the main entrance, has reeded panel mouldings dating from around 1800. The lower rear wing has a similar gable parapet with a stone-based stack, but it contains 20th-century windows and first-floor dormers.
The outbuilding to the right of the main farmhouse connects to Sydenham House and includes a small doorway and a two-light casement. At the rear, there is a larger open entry along with an old three-light casement featuring splayed mullions and lattice glazing. Inside, the farmhouse has stop-chamfered cross beams, a large inglenook fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and a bread oven, as well as some 18th-century panelled doors and shutters.
