Description

A row of three small cottages, likely originally a farmhouse and cottage, probably dating from around 1758, with a portion possibly built in the early 18th century. The cottages are constructed of coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings, and have a concrete roof covered in plain tiles, with stone-and-brick stacks. They are arranged with 2-unit and single-unit plans.

The front elevation has two storeys and an attic, and originally featured five windows. An ashlar storey band and eaves band run along the front. The first floor windows are regularly spaced; the ground floor has aligned windows, a central 6-panel door with a mullioned overlight, and an additional matching window between bays two and three. Narrower doors are located between bays one and two, and bays four and five (belonging to No. 1). All windows are topped with ashlar flat arches featuring projecting keyblocks that form part of the bands. Windows in bays four and five retain their original cross windows. The steep-pitched roof has gable parapets, and three double stacks are set on stone bases. The right-hand gable wall retains leaded casements on three floors. A 2-storey stable bay, originally to the left, is now incorporated into No. 3 cottage. A double datestone between bays one and two is inscribed "G/RS/17" and "G/IS/58", possibly recording the construction of the left-hand portion. The interior has not been inspected.
