Description

The Old Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with earlier features, altered in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings and wooden lintels, and has a concrete plain-tile roof with stone-and-brick stacks. The building is arranged in a T-shaped plan, likely built in two phases. The front has three windows and is divided into two sections set at an oblique angle, both with a chamfered plinth. The right section is probably the older part and features a central two-storey bay window with a moulded string and stone gable. Blocked side windows and the remains of the surround of a three-light stone-mullioned first-floor window are visible, although the front windows now have inserted casements; the lower window is larger and has a wooden lintel. A small two-light stone window with cinqfoiled heads is located to the right of the bay, likely dating to the 15th century. The left section is slightly taller and contains a blocked stone-mullioned cellar window, a large three-light casement below an ashlar flat arch, and the main entrance positioned at the junction of the two sections. The first floor here has an old four-light leaded casement above the doorway, plus a two-light casement. The steep-pitched roof has a central diagonal stack and a further stack on the gable parapet to the left. The left gable wall has further casements and a sash window. The plinth extends around the main range and a rear wing. Internally, a massive central chimneybreast incorporates a passage to the rear, and there are stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
