Description

The terrace wall, built around 1690, is located approximately 8 meters south of The Old Rectory. Constructed from coursed squared limestone and ashlar, the wall supports the terrace in front of The Old Rectory and runs between the garden walls. It features six raking buttresses and a central flight of stone steps, which have outward-splaying balustrade walls and moulded nosings. The Old Rectory was built for Dr. Robert South in 1689-90, and a late 17th century engraving depicts the wall and steps. This structure is included for its group value.
