Description
Merlins is a row of three or four cottages, now converted into two houses, likely built in the early 18th century and altered in the 20th century. The structure is made of limestone rubble with wooden lintels and some marlstone dressings, topped with an artificial stone-slate roof and featuring brick stacks. The building has L-shaped ranges and is one storey plus attics. The wing facing Fir Lane has six renewed two-light casements of varying sizes and six gabled 20th-century dormers. The wing that returns to Cow Lane at an oblique angle has large squared marlstone quoins at the corner, two additional casements, and a doorway, all with chamfered lintels, along with a similar dormer. The roof includes three stacks. The interiors have not been inspected. The building is included for its group value.
