Description

Griffin Cottage and the Butcher's Shop are two houses built in a row, dating from the mid-18th century. Griffin Cottage is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble and squared coursed ironstone, featuring a steeply pitched slate roof and a brick end stack. It has a one-unit plan and stands two storeys high with a single window. The entrance, located to the right, has a panelled and glazed door with a wood lintel above. To the right of the entrance is a two-light casement window with a wood lintel, while a small rectangular window to the left has a wood lintel and iron bars. On the first floor, there is a single two-light metal casement window set in a wood frame, also with a wood lintel.

The Butcher's Shop, also from the mid-18th century but with 19th-century alterations, is made of squared coursed ironstone and features a 20th-century tile roof with stone-coped gables. It has brick ridge and end stacks, with the right end stack resting on a chamfered-stone base. The building has a four-unit plan and is two storeys tall with a two-window range. The left part includes a raking roofed outshot with a slate roof extending across the elevation, a wide wood lintel, and a partly blocked window. The right part features French doors with margin glazing and a wood lintel, alongside a two-light wood casement window to the left with a wood lintel and a canted bay window to the right. On the first floor, there are two three-light metal casements in wood frames, one of which has a chamfered wood lintel. Both the ground and first floors have blocked centre openings with wood lintels. The building includes wrought-iron casement fasteners and springs, and there is a sundial on the right gable. The interiors have not been inspected.
