Description

Wheatsheaf Cottage is a public house that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of squared, coursed ironstone and features a steeply pitched roof covered with 20th-century tiles, along with stone-coped gables and moulded kneelers. The chimney stacks have been renewed in brick during the 20th century.

The cottage has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, positioned gable end facing the road. The side elevation has two windows, while the elevation facing Thorpe Road includes two 20th-century ground floor windows and a blocked first floor window. In the attic, there is a two-light casement window with a wooden lintel. The entrance is off-centre to the left, featuring a panelled and glazed door with a wooden lintel. To the right of the entrance, there is a four-light metal casement window in a wooden frame with a wooden lintel. The first floor has a two-light and a three-light metal casement window, both in wooden frames with wooden lintels. There is also a small rectangular stone-framed window on the right and ironstone quoins.

The interior reportedly includes an inglenook fireplace, beams, and an original staircase. The building was once part of the Wheatsheaf Public House.
