Description

Hillside is a house dating from 1694, constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble with a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof, featuring stone copings and moulded kneelers. The house has a T-plan and stands two storeys tall. On the ground floor, there are a 4-light and a 3-light wooden mullioned window with moulded and chamfered lintels, along with a small rectangular window with stone surrounds to the right. The first floor includes a three 3-light window on the left, a metal casement on the right, and a central wooden mullioned window with wooden lintels; two of these windows have moulded chamfered lintels. An attic rooflight is present. There is a 20th-century entrance located at the right end, between the 17th-century house and a 20th-century extension. At the rear, there is a gabled two-storey rectangular staircase projection with a 3-light stone mullion window on the first floor and another in the cellar. The left end features 2- and 3-light wooden mullions with metal lights and wooden lintels. Inside, the house has stop-chamfered beams and chamfered bressumers in the inglenook fireplace, stone flag floors, panelled doors, the upper part of a wooden spiral staircase, and a stone spiral staircase leading to the cellar. The roof includes a butt purlin.
