Description
The Old Bakehouse is a 17th-century house located in South Newington. It is built from regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched tile roof with three brick stacks on stone bases along the ridge and to the left, as well as a stone stack to the right. The building has stone copings and a three-unit plan, consisting of a single storey plus an attic.
The front has a three-window range, with two original wood mullioned and transomed windows and one 20th-century wood mullioned and transomed window on the ground floor, along with a tall three-light wooden casement and a small wooden casement. Four of the windows have wooden lintels, while one features a stone flat arch. In the attic, there are two three-light stone mullioned windows with opening casements; the left window has hood moulds and label stops, and to the right, there is a tall wooden casement with a stone flat arch. The cellar includes a two-light wooden casement window with a stone surround, which is undercut and rounded at the right end. The interior has not been inspected.
