Description
Newton House is a house dating from 1710, indicated by the datestone P/R/F (for Parsons, Richard Francis). It is constructed of regularly coursed ironstone rubble and features a steeply pitched Welsh slate roof with stone copings. The house has two brick end stacks on moulded stone bases and is designed in a T-plan, consisting of a single storey plus an attic.
The front facade has a two-window range, with two 3-light 20th-century casements set in stone surrounds on the ground floor. In the attic, there are two 3-light flat faced stone mullions that have hood moulds and label stops, along with a 2-light flat faced stone mullion for the cellar. To the left, there is a single storey extension with a Welsh slate roof and a brick end stack.
At the rear, there is a two-storey staircase projection, with 3-light stone mullions on both the ground floor and attic that feature wooden moulds and label stops. Additionally, there is a rear extension from the 18th or 19th century. Inside, the house includes stop-chamfered beams and a stop-chamfered bressumer, a wooden spiral staircase leading to the attic, a stone spiral staircase to the cellar, and a butt purlin roof.
