Description
These are two barns located approximately 30 meters north of Sydenham House, likely built in the mid to late 17th century and around 1700. They are constructed from coursed squared marlstone and feature thatched roofs. The barns are arranged in a single range with linked roofs that form a yard entry. The larger barn has full-height double doors and a smaller Tudor-arched stone doorway at the rear. The smaller barn has double doors on the opposite side and a wooden lintel above a small rear door. Ventilation is provided by mostly square vents, although the smaller barn includes some short chamfered slits. Both barns have long slits in the gable wall, and their gables are topped with parapets that have projecting moulded kneelers. Inside, the principal rafters cross at the apex, supporting ridge beams and through purlins. This is an unusually long barn range.
