Description
The Holcombe Hotel is likely two houses that have been converted into a hotel. It dates from the early to mid-18th century and late 18th century, with possible earlier origins. The building is constructed from coursed squared marlstone and features wooden lintels, topped with Welsh-slate roofs and brick stacks. It has a combination of three-unit and two-unit plans, standing two storeys plus an attic, with part of the structure raised to three storeys.
The taller three-unit section on the right has a three-window front, primarily featuring 16-pane sash windows. The first bay has two tripartite sashes, while the third bay has one sash at ground level. The entrance, located to the left of centre, has been altered in the 20th century, and there is an inserted window to the right of the entrance. The shallow-pitched roof has projecting boxed eaves and stacks at both gables and to the left of centre.
The earlier two-window range has a symmetrical front with a central six-panel door, 16-pane sashes on the ground floor, and 12-pane sashes above. Its steep-pitched roof includes two gabled roof dormers and a stack on the left side. The right end wall of the taller section displays an earlier gable line. Inside, the hotel features stop-chamfered joists and a moulded beam at the rear.
