Description

The Glen is a house with an attached smithy, now used as a workshop. It dates from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 18th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from coursed ironstone rubble and squared coursed ironstone, topped with a steeply pitched thatched roof. It features a brick ridge stack set on a stone base and is designed in an L-plan. The structure has two storeys plus an attic and a total of three window ranges.

There are two entrances: the one on the left leading to the house has a 20th-century door with a wooden lintel, while the workshop entrance on the right has wide carriage doors. The house includes a two-light casement window to the left and a 20th-century window with a stone lintel to the right. To the left of the workshop doors is a sash window with a wooden lintel. On the first floor, there is a 20th-century window in stone surrounds with a hood mould and label stop, a two-light wood mullioned and transomed window with a hood mould and label stops, and a long six-light window above the workshop. The gable features a two-light stone mullioned attic window with a hood mould and label stop.

The interior is noted for its arrangement, which includes a hall, a parlour (formerly the smithy), and a dairy at the rear of the hall. There are large fireplaces in the hall, parlour, and the chamber above the hall, as well as a wood spiral staircase. The interior has not been inspected.
