Description
8 and 9 Bainton Road, which includes 10 and 11 Bainton Road, are two houses that were formerly subdivided. They date from the early to mid-18th century and are constructed of limestone rubble with wooden lintels. The roofs are made of concrete plain tiles and feature brick stacks. The buildings are a single range with rear outshuts and stand two storeys tall.
The symmetrical three-window front of Nos. 10 and 11, which is now one house, has a central entrance with a plank door that used to serve an access passage. It retains two-light leaded casements in the outer bays. Nos. 8 and 9 have three similar leaded casements on the first floor, but the doorway is flanked by 20th-century bow windows, with the right bay being slightly lower. The roofs have catslides to the rear.
Inside, No. 10 features a small open fireplace with a late 18th or early 19th-century panelled wooden surround and a staircase with winders. The interior of Nos. 8 and 9 has not been inspected. The adjoining house, No. 7 to the right (east), is not included in this listing. These buildings form a group with the Church of St. Peter and The Old Rectory.
