Description

The Trow Pool Water Tower is a water tower built in 1909, constructed from local stone rubble with a concrete cap, metal platform, and tiled roof. It has a square plan with a flared base on each side and corner. There is a ground level entrance on one face leading to a hollow center, while the upper level houses a lead tank. A projecting metal platform wraps around the upper level.

The facade features arcading with a large arch on each face, which includes a keystone, voussoirs, and banding. The arches spring from imposts that define the corner piers, which are also flared at the base. On two opposite sides, one arch is blind with a ledge at the bottom, and one of these has a stone date plaque reading '1909' along with a crest. The other two sides have open arches leading to the hollow center, with the base of the arches slightly recessed and capped with rough stones. The ground level opening has the same detail as the large arches. Above the arches, the metal platform is supported by four brackets on each face, with a concrete section and a hipped roof capped flat.

Inside, there is one open room at ground level, and the upper level is designated for the water tank. The tower was built by Major Philip Hunloke to serve the estate of Bucknell Manor and the village of Bucknell, remaining in use until the 1950s when mains water was installed.
