Description

The Bull Inn is an inn built around 1608, with alterations and extensions made in the early 19th century and again by George Devey around 1880. The main structure is timber-framed, faced with red brick on the ground floor and tile hung on the first floor, featuring a pebbledashed gable. The right side elevation is also tile hung, and the building has a tiled roof. It stands two storeys high, with three windows on the front and two on the side.

The front elevation includes one hipped dormer and a right side gable with a wooden bargeboard supported by wooden brackets, which contains a casement window with leaded light. The ground floor has three casement windows and a built-out projection with a tiled roof, featuring late 19th-century 'chinoiserie' type glazing and a front entrance. The right side elevation has a five-sided extension at the corner, with a first-floor triple casement window and ground floor glazing consisting of eleven lights in 'chinoiserie' style. There is also a right side hipped dormer. The first floor features a three-light 19th-century oriel window and a five-light 'chinoiserie' glazed oriel window from the late 19th century.

At the rear, there is a two-storey early 19th-century wing made of diaper brickwork, topped with a hipped tiled roof and featuring one and two windows, which was likely originally a detached outbuilding. Inside the bar, there is a chamfered spine beam and joists with lambs' tongue stops, as well as a large inglenook fireplace that includes two gabled salt niches and integral seats. RIBA drawings exist for the additions made by Devey.
