Description
These four cottages, known as Courtstile and The Island, date from the late 16th or early 17th century, with additions made in the early 19th century. The cottages are timber-framed and sit on a brick plinth, with weatherboard cladding over a rendered ground floor. The roofs are tiled and gabled, except for a hip roof leading to the inner return wing on the right side, and a half-hip on this return wing. The original block has a return wing to the right, with a further block added to this and running parallel at the rear of the right side, featuring a lower wing at the left end. The cottages are two storeys high with attics, including a garret in the inner return wing and a central, flat-topped dormer. The windows are irregularly placed, with three on the first floor and four on the ground floor; most are wood-framed casements, except for one iron-framed window on the ground floor to the left. A large, rendered porch with two boarded doors is located on the right side. The right-hand wing has two storeys and a slightly irregular three-window front. Boarded doors are present at the extreme left and within a recess to the left of the ground floor window on the right.
