Description
This is a group of three 18th-century headstones located approximately 13 meters south of the tower of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. All three headstones are upright sandstone slabs, standing between 300 and 550 millimeters high. One headstone features a shaped head with large bifurcated scrolls above a fielded panel that is inscribed in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, recording the death of Samuel Gilbert in 1724. The other two headstones have curvilinear shaped heads and sunken front panels with moulded surrounds. Both of these heads are inscribed with crossed arrows and feature inscriptions in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. The left headstone records the death of Elizabeth Hurrion, while the right one records the death of James Hurrion, although the dates on both are buried or illegible.
