Description

Tanyard Cottages is a row of cottages dating from the mid-19th century, built as part of the Scotney Castle estate. The cottages consist of two parallel ranges constructed with hammer-dressed sandstone on the ground floor, brick to the return elevations, and ornamental tile hanging on the first floor. They have a plain tiled roof with a half-hipped design. The elevation includes a bellcast to the first floor and a central gabled dormer. The cottages are set on a plinth and feature tall, moulded stacks located centrally to the left and right. The front has three three-light wooden casement windows on each floor; the ground floor windows have segmental heads. There are boarded doors with raking hoods on brackets to the left, centre right, and right. A two-storey rear wing has a half-hipped roof, two stacks, and three wooden casement windows on each floor, along with three boarded doors.
