Description

The Old Bricklayers is a pair of houses, likely dating to the 16th century or earlier, with substantial alterations in the 17th and 18th centuries. The houses are timber framed and have a tile hung upper section over a rendered ground floor. The roof is tiled, with a half-hipped profile, decorative gablets, and a central chimney stack on the left side, along with two hipped dormers. Originally a probable hall house, the building is now a lobby entry plan with four bays of unequal size. The front elevation has three 20th-century wooden casement windows on each floor, and a boarded front door centrally located, sheltered by a flat hood supported on brackets. A projecting oriel bay is located on the right return. The building was formerly known as the Bricklayers Arms Public House. A separate right return wing, related to the pair, features a central stack, two wooden casement windows on each floor, a boarded door at the right end, and a flat hooded porch.
