Description

This is a mid-19th century cottage located on Lower Green Road in Pembury, with some modern updates from the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with burnt headers, featuring brick stacks and chimneyshafts, and has a peg-tile roof.

The cottage has an L-shaped plan, facing east. To the left (south) is a one-room block parallel to the street, which may have originally been heated, although its chimneyshaft is no longer visible. To the right is a two-room crosswing that projects forward, with both rooms having separate outer lateral stacks. There is likely a secondary service extension at the rear of the left room, along with a 20th-century one-room extension at the right end. The building stands two storeys tall, with single-storey extensions.

Architecturally, the cottage is designed in a Gothic style. The front features a 1:3 window arrangement with 19th-century casements that include timber Y-tracery. The three-window section on the right is part of the crosswing, which has wide canted corners and pointed arch heads on the first-floor windows. A verandah supported by plain posts is located in front of the left room, leading to a doorway into the crosswing, which contains a Gothic-style door set in a two-centred arch. The roof is gable-ended, and the canted front of the crosswing is adorned with three spiky gables featuring wavy bargeboards. The rear service block is weatherboarded, and the 20th-century extension on the right includes a single front window with a Gothic leaded pattern that echoes the original windows.

The interior has not been inspected.
