Description

The Lodge is a house built in the mid-19th century, with some modern updates from the 20th century. It features a stucco exterior, likely over brick, and has brick stacks with plastered chimney shafts topped with acroteria-like crests. The roof is covered with slate.

This house has a double depth plan and faces southeast onto The Green. It consists of front and back rooms on either side of a central entrance hall and main staircase. The rooms have end stacks, with the left front stack projecting. The roof over the front section is higher than that over the rear.

The exterior has a regular but not symmetrical three-window front, featuring timber mullion-and-transom casements with margin panes and moulded stucco architraves. The left ground floor has a French window styled similarly, while the right bay projects forward with a full-height tripartite window. The central doorway, accessed by four stone steps, has a part-glazed 12-panel door framed by a doorcase with flat pilasters and a moulded entablature. There is a moulded eaves cornice and a tall parapet that conceals the low-pitched roof.

The interior has not been inspected but is believed to contain original joinery and other details. The Lodge is one of three large detached 19th-century houses on the northwest side of The Green and was formerly used as Mr. Ditmars School for the sons of gentlemen.
