Description
Durham Cottages is a pair of houses located on School Hill in Lamberhurst. The exterior dates from the early 19th century, but it has an earlier core, with an attached stack that is at least from the 17th century. The building features a red brick ground floor set on sandstone footings, while the first floor is tile hung beneath a plain tiled roof. It stands two storeys high on a plinth. The right side is partly constructed in English bond, and there is a stack on the right as well as a very large freestanding cluster of three offset stacks with a rear outshot on the left, also built in English bond with tumbled-in brickwork on the offsets. The first floor has four two-light wooden casements, while the ground floor has two three-light casements to the left and center, along with a half-glazed gabled porch to the center left featuring half-glazed doors on each side and a boarded door on the right return.
