Description
HAWKHURST THE MOOR TQ 7429-7529 (west side) 18/386 The Moor Brewery, house and courtyards with outbuildings GV II Brewery and house, now house and outbuildings. Circa 1841. Red and blue chequered brick and slate roof, with stables/carriage house with weather-boarded upper storey. House with garden to front (east) and courtyard to rear. House of 2 storeys, the upper floor probably rebuilt later C19, with moulded bargeboarded gables and stacks to left and to right. Regular fenestration of 3 glazing bar sashes on first floor, and 1 to right on ground floor, with canted bay with glaz- ing bar sashes to left. Central door, half-glazed with round-headed lights, and ovoid fanlight, in moulded porch on coupled, moulded colonettes. Glazing bar sashes to return elevations and garret. Rear elevation of the house with regular fenestration of 3 glazing bar sashes, with open pedimented central doorcase. Rear courtyard bounded by porch wall, about 6 feet high, with central wooden carriage gates. incorporated into the walling a low single storey hipped outhouse with stack and 2-storey part-weatherboarded stable range, with 4 wooden casements on first floor, carriage doors, elliptical open passageway and boarded door on ground floor, and loft door in gable end overlooking road, an which is a plaque inscribed: The Moor 1841 - 1921 Brewery
