Description
Bellingham Headstone is located approximately 10 metres south of the porch of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. This headstone, dated 1711, commemorates John and Sarah Bellingham. It is an upright sandstone slab that stands about 400 millimetres high and features a double curvilinear shaped head. Both heads are intricately carved, depicting figures that likely represent death with a scythe on the left and God in the stars on the right. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, arranged in two columns. The left column records the death of Sarah Bellingham, although the date is obscured. The right column notes the death of her husband John in 1711.
