Description

The monument to Thomas Neve is located approximately 15 metres north of the west tower at St George's Church in Benenden. This Grade II listed chest tomb dates from around 1807 and features a rectangular stone chest with projecting end pilasters that are partially fluted and partially reeded. The sides and ends of the tomb have carved inscribed panels. Surrounding the tomb is a railed enclosure set on a sandstone plinth, with cast iron railings dating from around 1870. The railings consist of six square principals adorned with Gothic mouldings, crocketed finials, and spear railings topped with foliated finials.
