Description

Lowland Farm House and its walled forecourt are located on Frittenden Sand Lane. The house dates back to the 16th century, with alterations made around 1701 and 1711. It features a timber frame clad with red and blue brick, and the first floor is tile hung, topped with a plain tiled roof. Originally a four framed bay hall house, it has been modified to include a lobby entry and three half-hipped rear wings. The building stands two storeys high on a plinth, with a hipped roof and a cluster of moulded and filleted stacks to the centre right.

On the first floor, there are three-light and four-light wooden casements to the left, and a glazing bar sash to the right. The ground floor has two-light and three-light wooden casements, along with another glazing bar sash. The entrance door is made of four raised and fielded panels, topped with a flat cornice hood supported by open scrolled brackets. The rear wings contain early casements that are still shuttered. Inside, the house is fully framed and features inglenooks and a four-centred arched doorway leading to the parlour, which has indented spandrels. The roof is supported by crown posts.

The walled forecourt, dating from the 18th century, has walls made of red brick that rise about three feet high and are regularly buttressed. The wall extends approximately 15 yards in front of the house and about 50 yards along the roadside, with corner piers and a 19th-century metal gate at the centre.
