Description

Rose Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is located on the north side of Five Oak Green Road in Capel. The front elevation is constructed of painted Flemish bond brick, while the other sides are timber-framed above the first floor and clad with weatherboards. The house has brick stacks and chimneyshafts, and a slate roof.

The house has a double depth plan, with front and back rooms on either side of a central entrance hall containing the main staircase. Principal rooms are located at the front, while service rooms are at the rear. It is two storeys high, and has a symmetrical two-window front with 16-pane sashes. The ground floor windows are set within low segmental arches. The central front doorway features a 19th-century six-panel door under a tented hood. The hood's front gable is decorated with diagonal planks and supported by curving timber struts. The roof is hipped at both ends. The interior was not inspected when the building was recorded.
