Description
The wall and gates to the entrance court of Preston Hall, built around 1850 by John Thomas for Edward Betts, are made of dressed stone with an ashlar finish above. The wall has a square plan with curved corners and features both wall and balustrade elements. The balustrade includes geometrical abstracted balusters and moulded standards. In the center, there is an entrance to the forecourt, flanked by gate-piers that have stone bands, cornices, and urns. The balustrade is supported by volute decoration. The wall stands 4 feet high, the standards reach 6 feet, and the piers are 9 feet tall.
