TQ 65 SW WEST PECKHAM SCHOOL ROAD (south side) 1/10 - Gates and Gate-Piers to the west of Oxon Hoath

Group of gates to the west of the house. 1. At end of main drive up to entrance front. 4 C18 gate piers, reputedly from the Pre-Fire House of Parliament. 2 ashlar piers, with banded rustication and top cornices. Surrounded by pedestals supporting globe on brackets with 4 globes projecting and small upper oblisk. 2 smaller outer piers with cornice, pyramidal pedestal and globe. Tall iron gates in centre with over-throw and spearhead railings. Railings beyond outer piers reputed to be copies of altar rails of various North Italian Cathedrals. 2. 3 further sets of gates, wrought iron with standards and over-throw, to west, south and north of the main gates. Probably C19 in date. 3. 1 highly decorated. set of wrought iron gates. Reputedly from Eltham Palace, definitely later C17 to south of main gates, leading to garden at south of house. Standards and over-throw.
