Description
The entrance wall and gate to the kitchen garden at Oxon Hoath is a 19th-century structure. It features a narrow entrance neck made of rubble stone, with five piers on each side. The corner piers on the east side are topped with pedestals that support globes. The east wall has a balustraded parapet. The central gate, made of ashlar, has a moulded arch and is said to have originated from the Auvergne region of France, showcasing an example of provincial Rococo style from around 1750. There are string-courses at the level of the capitals, and a central scroll-work cartouche is positioned above the arch. Panelled pilasters on either side swell at their bases, with volutes flanking the pilasters at the string level.
