Description

No. 17, High Street is a cottage, originally timber-framed and dating from the 17th century or earlier, with a later 18th-century facade. The front is red brick laid on a stone base, topped by an old tiled roof. The building is two storeys high with three windows. A distinctive wooden cornice incorporates a Gothic frieze. The windows are 12-pane sashes set within moulded architraves. The central doorcase has architraved surrounds and an open pediment above a boarded fanlight incorporating a Gothick motif. The front door is 6-panelled. The rear gable is weatherboarded and features leaded casements in the attic storey and part of the first floor. Internally, substantial remains of exposed timber framing are present.
