Description

Old Stones is a 16th-century hall-house, possibly with a 15th-century wing to the right, and later additions at the rear. The ground floor is red brick, while the first floor is half-timbered with plaster infilling. The roof is tiled. A jetty extends to the left, supported by exposed joists and brackets. The wing to the right was originally jettied but is now underbuilt in brick and has a gabled shape with modern decorative bargeboards. The main hall has two storeys and a three-window front, while the gable end has a single window. The windows are modern lattice casements. A modern porch covers the entrance on the left return front. A crown post is located in the attic of the main block. The house was once the home of Benjamin Harrison, a well-known local antiquarian.
