Description
This is an early 18th century building, originally two houses, now offices, located on High Street, West Malling. The building comprises two distinct phases of construction. The left-hand five bays are built of brown brick with red brick dressings, while the right-hand three bays are of red brick with grey headers. The roof is covered in plain tiles, half-hipped to the left and with a full hip to the right. The building has two storeys and a facade of eight and then seven windows. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top of the building. The windows are 12-pane sashes set within moulded wooden architraves, each with rubbed brick voussoirs. The first floor windows in the left five bays have brick aprons, similar to those found at the nearby Joiners Arms. The left five bays have a stone plinth, while the right three bays have a brick plinth. The original doorcase was likely located in the centre of the left five bays. The existing doorcase is a late 18th century addition, featuring a flat wooden hood supported by brackets, pilasters, and a rectangular fanlight. It contains a 6-panelled door and a sphinx doorknocker. Cast-iron spear railings are attached to the front. A mid-19th century stuccoed extension is located to the rear. Inside, a staircase from the 18th century is present, featuring turned balusters and a column newel.
