Description
The Church of St Benedict is a Grade II* listed building located on Paddlesworth Road in Snodland. This church, which later served as a farm building, dates from the early 12th and 13th centuries and underwent restoration in the early 20th century as well as mid to late 20th century. It is constructed of ragstone rubble and features a tiled roof. The church consists of two cells: a nave and a straight-ended chancel. It has plain round-headed windows and a north doorway. The interior is simple, with a chancel arch that was heightened in the 13th century. The nave has a 19th-century roof, while the chancel features a 15th-century roof with a single truss and a braced king post. There is a 19th-century gallery with traceried detailing in a 15th-century style below, and the gallery rail above is adorned with former communion rail splat balusters. A late 17th-century cast-iron candelabrum is also present in the nave. At the time of the re-survey, the church was vested in the redundant Churches Fund.
