Description
The Church of St Michael is a Grade I listed building, dating from around 1100, with additions from the 12th and 13th centuries, and alterations made in the 14th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of ragstone rubble and features plain tiled roofs. The church comprises a nave, chancel, and a north tower, which was added in the 12th century. The three-stage tower has a 12th-century window in the lowest stage and a 15th-century window in the top stage. There is one original window in the nave, while all other windows were replaced in the later 19th century. The chancel was added in the 13th century, along with a south aisle that was subsequently blocked and removed in the 13th century, although the arches are still visible inside the nave. The chancel contains lancet windows with round rerearches. Inside, there is a 14th-century chancel arch with squints on each side and a round relieving arch above. The stained glass includes a 15th-century angel in the southwest lancet.
