Description
The Crown Hotel is a public house located on York Street in Ramsgate. It dates from the early 18th century and was refronted in the early 19th century. The building is rendered and features a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall with a basement, showcasing a plinth and pilaster strips along the parapet, which has a raised segmental centre section.
On the second floor, there are three wooden casements, while the first floor has two canted bays with sash windows and a central sash window. The ground floor has a 'pub front' design with rounded corners, featuring plate glass windows and central double half-glazed doors topped with a rectangular fanlight and a pilastered surround. A fascia and cornice run across the entire front. There is a basement opening to the left side of the building. The name "Crown Hotel" is displayed in raised lettering on the segmental parapet. The establishment was first registered as the Crown Inn in 1717.
