Description

Lovejoy Cottage is an early to mid-19th century cottage, originally part of early 19th century pleasure gardens in St Peter's. The cottage is constructed of knapped flint with rough flint dressings. The front elevation features four bays, with the central two bays projecting and topped by a pediment. This pediment is decorated with a stone frieze depicting a reclining figure of Neptune flanked by mermaids. Quoins define the corners, and there are two sashes with pointed head linings in the central portion. A stringcourse runs along the front. The projecting central section is flanked by two-storey wings with hipped slate roofs. A rough flint stringcourse is also present on these wings. The left wing has a three-light sash with a cambered head and a brick surround, and a French window. The right wing features a sash window with intact glazing bars and a modern brick extension. A sash with intact glazing bars and a modern glazed extension is visible on the right side elevation. The cottage has group value with the nearby Old Parish Hall.
