Description

Elmwood Holm Oak is a large house built in two stages during the early to mid 19th century. The left portion is two storeys and rendered with stucco, featuring a slate roof, a parapet, and a moulded cornice. It has two, three-light windows on each floor, and two sash windows. A central doorcase is topped with a round-headed porch. A later, 19th-century section was added to the right, constructed in a pseudo-timber-framed style with roughcast plaster infill on the upper floors and brick on the ground floor. This section has a tiled roof and a dormer window. The upper floor windows are leaded casements with three lights. The house is notable for having been the residence of Cecil Harmsworth, later Lord Northcliffe, a prominent newspaper proprietor and government minister during the First World War, and is listed primarily for its historical interest.
