Description
The wall to Nos 1 and 2 (Brent Hill Cottages) is located on the north-west and south-east sides of Brent Hill in Davington. This wall, constructed in the 18th century and later, is made of red and yellow brick. It rises in steps from the house and ends at a point opposite No 1 Brent Hill Bungalow. At the westernmost end, there is a gate pier with a stone cap. To the east of the house, there is a gateway featuring a segmental arch and plain brick pilasters, also with stone capping, along with a contemporary gate. Further east, a red brick wall from the 18th to 19th century descends eastward and then southward down the hill into Flood Lane. This wall includes a pair of gate piers flanking the entrance to the former Home Gunpowder Works at Stonebridge Ponds, which is now allotment gardens. The entire wall once enclosed this part of the gunpowder works, located to the south of Brent Hill. All the listed buildings in Brent Hill are part of a group.
