Description

Nos 20 to 22 on Court Street are 16th to 17th century timber-framed houses that have been refronted in Old but still show the overhang of the first floor supported by a bressummer and brackets. The first floor of No 20 and of Nos 21 and 22 features close-studding. The buildings are two storeys high with an attic, each having two windows. Nos 19 and 20 have two dormers each, while Nos 21 and 22 have one dormer each. They have steeply pitched tiled roofs; No 19 has a parapet, while Nos 20, 21, and 22 have an eaves cornice. No 19 includes two small bays on the ground floor with intact glazing bars in all windows, and a doorway with a low rectangular fanlight and a door with six fielded panels. No 20 has two small bays on the first floor and two modern bays on the ground floor, all featuring casement windows, along with a small shop window that is no longer in use. Nos 21 and 22 have two 18th century curved shop windows with a half-glazed door between them, with intact glazing bars in the shop windows and door, although the first floor above lacks glazing bars. Original window openings are revealed on the first floor of Nos 21 and 22. Nos 17 to 25 form a group.
