Description
No 63 West Street is part of a range of 15th to 16th century timber-framed houses, which have been altered since the 18th century but still retain the overhang of the first floor supported by a bressummer and brackets. The building has two storeys, with Nos 57 to 61 featuring an attic and 14 dormers, totaling 11 windows. The first floor of Nos 55 and 65 displays exposed timbering with brick infilling, while the others are plastered. There is an eaves cornice, and the roofs are tiled, although Nos 59, 60, and 61 have been replaced with slates. Nos 55 and 56 showcase 19th century windows on the first floor and early 19th century shop windows on the ground floor, including one curved window with intact glazing bars. Nos 57, 58, and 60 also have 19th century shop windows. No 59 features painted brick on the ground floor and has a small bay window. No 61 is plastered, while Nos 62 and 65 are roughcast. The first floor generally has sash windows with intact glazing bars, except for No 61, which has casement windows. Nos 51 to 63 form a cohesive group.
