Description

Tanyard House is a restored 15th-century timber-framed building of two storeys and an attic, featuring four windows. The building’s right-hand bay has a jettied first floor supported by brackets, incorporating a dragon beam at a right angle. It is topped by a high-pitched tiled roof. The exterior showcases robust exposed timber framing with plaster infill. Modern lattice casement windows and a plank door are in character with the building’s historic features. The rear elevation displays exposed timber framing with plaster infill on the first floor and a modern brick addition at ground floor level. The left return is faced with 19th-century brick. Internally, exposed timber is visible, and the attic contains a restored crown post. The site has been associated with a tannery run by the Whitmore family for approximately 300 years. The building is part of a group with numbers 86 to 96 (even).
