Description

This is a building of probable 16th-century or earlier origin, incorporating a framed structure with an oversailing first floor. The building appears to consist of two distinct sections, with the right-hand portion being slightly lower than the left. The roof is steeply pitched and tiled, featuring a rebuilt ridge stack. A 19th-century gabled dormer breaks the eaves of the roof on the central part of the building (number 77).

The building is two storeys in height, with three windows in total. The first floor is clad in tile hanging and painted, while the ground floor is rendered. Number 75 has a 19th-century casement window on the first floor and a canted oriel shop front with glazing bars on the ground floor, featuring a diagonally set door. Number 77 has a plain, small shop front and a half-glazed door beneath the gabled dormer. Number 79 has an 18th-century leaded iron casement window on the first floor, and two canted bay shop windows with glazing bars, and a glazed door on the ground floor. The ground floor shop fronts are modern, but visually appropriate to the building.

Numbers 77 and 79, along with number 81, The King and Queen Public House, form a group of buildings with architectural interest.
