Description

The Old George Inn is an L-shaped corner building that dates back to the 16th century, with some additions from the 18th century. The north elevation features painted brick with exposed timber framing in places. The first floor partly overhangs, supported by a corner bracket, and has exposed framing with plaster infilling. The building has projecting boxed eaves and a gutter, and the ridge tile roof is half hipped at one end.

On the side, there is an 18th-century two-storey addition with a ground floor of painted brick and weatherboarding above. A large tripartite sash window on the ground floor is set under a flat segmental arch and has panelled shutters, while a smaller sash window is located above it. The east elevation is rendered and consists of two storeys with a tiled gabled end and a small attic window. The ridge tile roof on the left is stopped and continues as a lean-to on the side, with tile hanging on the first floor to the left.

The building features various 18th and 19th-century sash windows and casements, along with two 19th-century public house doors. Inside, the left end reveals remnants of an open hall with a mutilated crown post and collar-purlin roof, while the gabled right part is from the 16th century. A dragon beam is visible in the public bar, and there is much heavy exposed timber throughout the building.
