Description
The Plume of Feathers Public House is a large L-shaped building located on the corner with Church Street in Crondall. It dates from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries and stands two storeys high with lower wings. The earliest part of the building, at the corner, features an exposed timber frame with the first floor overhanging on the north and west sides. This section displays exposed joist ends and arch braces at intervals, including diagonally at the corner. To the east, there is a 17th-century timber frame that is of lesser height, which transitions into a lower addition that has a timber-framed east gable but is finished with an 18th-century brick front. The red brickwork is laid in Flemish bond and includes infilling and other walling, along with first-floor bands and a plinth. The building has several 18th-century sash windows and small casements, some of which are old, as well as an old door. There have been many minor changes over the years, including a small modern extension in a similar style on the south-west corner.
